Frequently Asked Questions

Students should arrive at school at their usual time following normal morning routines.


  • BSL Cais do Sodré students will travel by bus with teachers.
  • BSL Restelo students will walk to the stadium supervised by Secondary staff.


Parents are welcome to join us from 10:00am onwards.


The sporting events will take place from 10:00am until approximately 1:00pm.


From 1:00pm to 3:00pm, families are invited to enjoy a picnic and afternoon activities, including entertainment and the popular Parent Races.


Yes. From 1:00pm onwards, parents become responsible for supervising their child(ren) during the family picnic and afternoon activities.


We recommend students bring:

  • PE kit
  • Trainers
  • House cap
  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen


Yes — we strongly encourage all students to wear their House caps to help build House spirit throughout the day. We would also love to see parents wearing theirs too.

New families will receive House caps, while existing families are kindly asked to bring the ones they already have.


Student safety is our priority. We strongly encourage all students to:

  • Wear their House cap throughout the day
  • Apply sunscreen before arriving at school
  • Bring a refillable water bottle

There will also be:

  • Water stations around the pitch
  • Additional water bottles available
  • Gazebos and shaded areas for students and families to cool down and rest

Staff will closely monitor students throughout the event and encourage regular hydration breaks.


How is success and participation rewarded during Sports Day?

Nursery & Reception

For our youngest students, the focus is on enjoyment, participation, and building confidence through friendly competition. Scores will not be recorded.

Students may receive stickers for:

  • Great effort
  • Sportsmanship
  • Fair play
  • Enthusiasm
  • Positive participation

Year 1 & Year 2

Students will begin collecting points for their Houses through participation in events. However, the emphasis remains on friendly competition and enjoyment.

No medals will be awarded at this stage, but students may receive stickers for:

  • Strong performances
  • Sportsmanship
  • Fair play
  • Enthusiasm and teamwork

Year 3

Year 3 marks the introduction of medal events. Boys and girls will compete together in the following events:

  • Standing Jump
  • Sprint
  • Javelin
  • Hurdles

Students can earn medals in these events while continuing to develop teamwork and House spirit.

Year 4 & Year 5

Students compete for medals with boys and girls competing separately.

Medals can be won in:

  • Standing Jump
  • Sprint
  • Javelin
  • Hurdles

House points also continue to contribute towards the overall House competition.

Year 6 – Year 10

Students will take part in a more traditional track and field format, with boys and girls competing separately across events.

Students can compete for medals while also earning points for their House teams.


The event finishes at 3:00pm.

Parents should collect their child(ren) directly from the venue or arrange collection at that time.


Yes, the Rodinhas transport service will operate from the sports club at 3:00pm.


Absolutely! We warmly encourage families to attend and support students throughout the day. Sports Day is a wonderful celebration of our whole school community.
